Castle (of Park)

Just got back from an excellent five days at Castle of Park (pictured here), another very cool Landmark Trust property. No internet access (hence the silence), but a really fine family get together, including WeatherGirl’s Mum, and WeatherGirl’s brother for a few days as well!
Staying in the castle (tower house, more accurately) was way cool, and while the weather was drearily Scottish (this was one of 2 or 3 bits of sun the whole time), we had a great time hanging out together, chatting, reading, and playing games.
Now it’s a few days of mad packing and closure before Tuesday’s epic journey back to Minnesota!
Using what came to hand

As mentioned earlier, our friend Jane came to visit us here in Colchester, and stayed in Peake’s House, a wonderful Landmark Trust property with parts dating back to the 1200′s.
This is a detail of the lower wall/cellar/foundation brickwork in the backgarden. There’s a very good chance that those slender "bricks" are recycled Roman tiles, which would have been over 1,000 years old when they were incorporated into this brickwork!
Amazing really.
With Colchester having once been the Roman capital of Britain, you often see bits of old Roman wall or construction re-used in this way around here, which is quite cool.
