I am 25 and want to move to Washington DC… any recommendations?

Question by Schmalski: I am 25 and want to move to Washington DC… any recommendations?
Hi. I am a free-lance web designer and I want to move to Washington DC for a while. I am 25, single, straight, unmarried and looking for an economical place, preferably furnished & short-term.

Any suggestions for what neighborhoods and streets are the best for post-university aged single people in Washington DC? Is Craigslist the best site for finding available housing in the DC metro area?

Thanks!
I live in California right now… so I kind of want to get things semi-arranged before I go out “apartment hunting.”

Lots of freaks use Craigslist to turn innocent people into sexual victims….

DC has a great scene for single people. Lots of people are always moving in and the dating scene is pretty vibrant.

-Lots of the young professionals in the city live in Adams Morgan or north of Dupont Circle. Both areas have lively bar scene.
-The Capitol Hill area has some good rental deals, and it’s great to go to Eastern Market on weekends.
-Many people are also moving up to the U street area which has great live music and restaurants.

Those areas are pretty expensive, but if you are willing to sacrifice space for location, it is worth it! Alternatively living up North West on Massachusetts ave, near the Cathedral, there are some bigger places, young people living near American University, but it is less transport accessible.

Northern Virginia (Alexandria, Ballston) are also really popular, but you are dependent on the metro but I think it doesn’t have the same feel of the city.

Craigslist is pretty popular in DC but I found my apartment in the classified section of the Washington Post.
