My wife don’t understand me, well she thinks that I’m a louse
She don’t understand that there’s a mortgage in this house
Her mother won’t quit nagging, well she thinks that I’m a slave
I’d like to put a knife in her and send her to the grave
In suburbia

Rugburns – In Suburbia

Uploaded basically as an example of a typical house in my street – its actually the place across the road from me, some of the houses here are single story some 2, some 3 bedroom some much larger but basically the look is the same – house on the traditional 1/4 acre block with gardens and green lawns – nothing here is older than 5 years in this development.

The song… Well i needed something to fit and basically I always think of a quote about quiet desperation behind closed doors. I will admit im not a suburban fan, ive never bought into the big house in the suburbs with a green lawn and a holden in the front yard Australian dream thing – i much prefer living closer to the city, lawns have to be mowed after all.

It just occurs to me we dont really photograph the world around us much, the everyday suburbs we live in. Perhaps thats something worth changing …

This digitage combines layers of images using Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite. The monopoly like houses were created individually then copied and pasted in layers while downsizing them and gradually decreasing the opacity. The grid is the Enron building on its side that gradually becomes the falls. The waterfall is from a photo of Riviere de la Blanche falls in Quebec. The shadow of the bull refers to a previous image of the Wall Street bull combined with a still from the animated film entitled Toro at midnight.

Folksonomy, taxonomy or tag clouds: creative accounting, complex financial instruments, mortgage meltdown, credit crisis, hedge funds, private equity funds, banking sector, finance, US economy, patient money, virtual money, virtual and the real, Wall Street, transparency, accountability, CEO, public versus private, venture capital, repackaged mortgages, subprime, risk society, extremes of wealth and poverty will intensify,
