Post Office Home Insurance research shows people are becoming ‘home entertainers’
More people entertaining at home means home insurance cover is essential
London, UK (PRWeb UK) 17 October 2009 — Thrifty living during the recession is leading to a rise in home entertaining, with 17 million people hosting events for family and friends at home more often now compared to 18 months ago, according to research conducted by Post Office Home Insurance.
With the country still feeling the pinch, the primary reason for staying in cited by 61 per cent of people was to save money. And as the nation spends more time at home, Post Office Home Insurance stresses that making sure appropriate home insurance cover is in place is even more important.
With more people entertaining and working at home, the risk of expensive damage such as broken windows, smashed crystal wine glasses and broken stereo systems increases.
Post Office Home Insurance also warns that, as people spend money on entertaining at home, they should make sure they have home insurance cover to protect against burglary of expensive items they have bought for entertaining.
Post Office Home Insurance recommends that by taking just a small amount of time to check they have adequate home insurance cover, homeowners could avoid being potentially underinsured and having to pay out for expensive items not covered in a current home insurance policy.
Richard Pennant-Jones, Post Office Head of General Insurance, said: “As we spend more time at home for entertaining, it’s important to make sure you have adequate home insurance to protect against accidental damage and take precautions to avoid becoming a victim of burglary.”
