Q&A: Can foriegn nationals continue to keep the ownership of UK property after leaving UK?
Question by s p: Can foriegn nationals continue to keep the ownership of UK property after leaving UK?
I am an Indian doctor and have been living in UK for the last 5 years. I am on an HSMP (Highly Skilled Migrant, tier 1) visa which is due to expire in 2011. I bought a UK property in 2005. Now I have decided to move to US for a new job. Can I still keep the ownership of UK property even after I leave the UK and my HSMP visa expires? Thanks in advance for any input.

Yes you can keep ownership. However please understand that it will in no way help you obtain a visa, including visitors visa, in the future.

What do you think? Answer below!

You will hold ownership of the property in UK, even if you live there or not. You have paid the value and will continue to remain in your name until and unless you decide to sell it. Many worldwide leaders and rulers do hold property in UK as they are not living in the united kingdom
You can still continue to own it, but why would you want to?
While you are not living in it, you still have to pay council tax and insurance. Many insurers will not insure a property if it’s empty for more than 30 days. It will also deteriorate if it is not lived in.
If you intend to rent it out while you are abroad, then you will need to use a UK letting agent. You need to provide a UK address for the tenancy to be legal. Also, there are about 200 UK laws you’d need to comply with for it to be legally let and maintained. You would also need your lender’s permission to rent it out.
yes provided you still pay the taxes.
if you dont pay the taxes, you lose the property.
and it will not help you get any visa in the future
