St. Peter’s of the Lakes’ Special Day

On Sunday, Nov. 8, St. Peter’s of the Lakes Episcopal Church, located near Kentucky Lake in western Kentucky, celebrated a special day–the day they burned the mortgage for their new parish hall. To fund the construction project, the small congregation raised about 3,000 and managed to pay off the mortgage within five years.
In addition to celebrating the mortgage burning, the congregation also celebrated the baptism of two young members and confirmations of three members plus the reaffirmations of several others. The photos in this set begin with pictures taken when Bishop Ted Gulick met with the confirmands, followed by photos taken during the service and afterwards the mortgage burning. The bishop, the Rev. Libby Wade (rector of Grace Paducah) and diocesan controller Becky Meyer were given the honor of burning sections of the mortgage because of their assisance during the construction project.
Upwardly immobile: mortgage stress bites

Reserve Bank statistics do not begin to tell the real story of housing stress in Sydney’s western suburbs, according to financial counsellor Mike Young. The former banker who joined Parramatta Lifeline as a financial adviser about nine years ago has seen his client list expand exponentially in the last three years. "I’ve been doing this for about nine years now and up until about three-and-a-half years ago I’d see one client a year with a mortgage problem," Mr Young said. "I’m now seeing one client a week if not two a week and I only work two days a week. (Mortgage stress) is alive and well."
