I am asking this for my wife who is a fashion designer. She wants to start a boutique in kochin Kerala,India.
We dont know what are the costs involved , we are currentlt NRI’s..
I understand we will have to lease a showroom , so lease deposit, then furnishing of the showroom, then the initial inventory ….
Can some one give me an idea on the cost structure of starting a retail outlet in Kochi Kerala…

For a store of size of approx 400 Sft, it would cost you any where between 6-10 Lakhs. There are lot of factors to consider important ones which determine the overall cost of investment would be-
1)Location of store
2)Area of store
The main sites in cochin in order of decreasing rental would be MG Road, Kaloor, Palarivattom, kakkanad. Ideal place according to me would be palarivattom or kakkanad. I think Kakkanad has become expensive because of IT population, therefore you get young crowd here.
I am not sure about the actuals but I feel the breakout would be like this for somewhere in kaakanad:-
Deposit- 2-3Lakhs
Interior-Decent one 2Lakhs-since your wife is a designer she can design a cost effective one.
Furniture-1.5 Lakhs
Computer , printer etc 50,000.
Rent per month 15-25K
So the minimum total would be 6Lakhs
