What country can one live in in Europe, apart from the UK so as not to pay CGT on UK property?

Question by zimgirl: What country can one live in in Europe, apart from the UK so as not to pay CGT on UK property?
I would like to move out of the UK and since I have properties in the UK do not want to pay CGT when I sell. Could I live in France or Italy for instance?

why wouldn’t you have to pay that tax? – if the property is in the UK, you would still have to pay it I imagine and to establish residency in another country to avoid tax laws, would probably require at least 6 months to a year of permanent residency, deal with visas, then you have to deal with all the tax laws of that country for everything income related

Any country will do. No CGT is charged on long-term non-residents.

As Eileen says – anywhere else. Though you might have a local CGT liability to the other country.
